Founded by James Duerden, Duerden Group brings a practical, straight-talking approach to delivery. We serve clients locally and across the UK, running safe, tidy sites with clear programmes and one point of contact. Whether we’re preparing ground, installing infrastructure or building out packages, the focus is the same: do the basics brilliantly, communicate well and hand over work we’re proud to put our name to.

Alongside project delivery, we create a local pathway into better-paid work. We partner with charities, colleges and employers to offer structured site experience, mentoring and access to essential tickets. Placements are supervised with RAMS briefings and PPE so people build hours safely and gain real confidence. We hire locally and fund training where it makes the difference, linking new skills to clear milestones, better rates and sustained employment—strengthening teams while opening doors for our community.

From our first jobs we set aside time and budget to help locally—offering paid placements and mentoring through charities and colleges, funding essential tickets and PPE, lending a hand on community projects, and buying from local suppliers with prompt payment. We’ve kept that approach as we’ve grown, because stronger people and stronger places make for better projects.

Who We Are

Duerden Earthworks Limited is a growing group of companies providing comprehensive construction, civil engineering, plant hire, and materials solutions. While our roots are firmly local, our experience extends across South Cumbria, the North of England, and beyond.

We combine practical, on-site experience with a forward-thinking mindset, offering end-to-end support tailored to each project — from early planning through to delivery.

We’re also actively working towards carbon-neutral goals by improving efficiency on site, reducing waste, and increasing reuse and recycling wherever practical.

The Duerden Story

Founded by James Duerden as a sole trader, the business grew organically through hard work, reputation, and trusted relationships. This progression led to the formation of Duerden Earthworks Limited, followed by the acquisition and growth of complementary businesses including Mixrite Concrete Ltd and Duerden Plant.

Today, the group operates as a fully integrated operation, delivering seamless, professional, and dependable support across earthworks, plant hire, and concrete supply — all under one trusted name.
